Whether someone in your circle is diagnosed bipolar or you are bipolar yourself, there is an obvious lack of support on both sides. Resources for those who struggle with bipolar-depression exist but they almost always fail to separate the person from the disorder. Bipolar disorder is so unique, meaning the treatment/approach differs drastically from person to person.
The immediate strategy is hospitalization, isolation, and dehumanization. There needs to be a product/approach for community members, friends and even coworkers to help integrate support and care into everyday life.
Greater awareness and care of bipolar disorder outside of the hospital will help patients better manage their condition. By knowing that their illness has no known cure and requires continuous treatment, they won't make the mistake of stopping medication when they feel well.
If the patient feels empowered to embrace their condition and support regular care from their community, there will be less hospitalization and more general knowledge.

“Diagnosing mental illness isn't a straightforward science. We can't test for it the same way we can test blood sugar levels for diabetes. Each condition has its own set of unique symptoms, though symptoms often overlap”
