Mental Health Analogies: (in movies, tv shows, songs, etc)

Goal: Provide a variety of analogies regarding Bi-polar and mental health issues that can connect those dealing with mental illness to those attempting to support them. Make the discussion, acceptance and understanding of mental health issues easier for all involved.

• These can be tailored to be helpful specifically for those with mental illness, those aiming to support, or both at the same time.
• People at different phases in their battle with mental illness may resonate with different analogies or references, compiling a wide variety would be ideal

Example:

DAVE Season 1 Episode 5: Hype Man:

• The whole episode focuses primarily on the character “GATA” who is diagnosed bi-polar 1. It provides some useful exposure and context for a person new to experiencing Bipolar Disorder
• The first Youtube clip shows a flashback to GATA experiencing an episode which lead to him being diagnosed Bi-polar
• The second Youtube clip GATA opens up about his mental illness to other characters, and receives support and positivity when he may have thought it would be met with negativity in the space he was sharing his insecurities.
