Gen Z spend a lot of time researching trauma across fragmented resources and trying to find practical answers, with #TraumaProcessing having more than two million views on TikTok (TikTok, 2022). They try out unengaging apps such as PTSD coach without understanding the context and if the tools offered are relevant to their experience. They’re often unable to share challenges of dealing with trauma with friends/family, with 71% of young adults suffering from loneliness (Stanford Century Summit, 2022)
95% of the population experienced at least one traumatic event (Kilpatrick DG et al. 2013) and 64% of therapists saw an increase in demand for trauma treatment this year (American Psychological Association, 2022). 75% of high schools report poor mental health as students’ biggest challenge (Stanford Century Summit, 2022). PTSD is the top four diagnosed condition amongst Gen Z (Harmony Healthcare, 2022). Over 50% of young adults do not receive appropriate mental health treatment and are more likely to speak to a friend about distress than any health professional (Burns, 2005). Gen Zers are three times more likely to seek treatment for suicidal ideation than any other generation (McKinsey, 2022)
