Over the years, I've heard many leaders across sectors from Healthcare to Tech say that they're struggling with meeting their DE&I goals because they can't find qualified Black talent. As recently as 2020, CEO of Wells Fargo, Charlie Scharf, blamed the lack of diversity at the bank on "a very limited pool of Black talent to recruit from." I've spoken to other C-suite members who've voiced (albeit much more privately) similar sentiments as it pertains to finding Black talent. This is a problem that can be solved.
As the wealth and wage gaps between white men and every other demographic continue to grow, it's becoming more and more dire that we consider practical ways to address it. Supplying Black folks with jobs that pay fairly and allow them to reach a place of economic sustainability doesn't just solve a problem for Black people, it solves a problem within the larger U.S. economy. There's a way to help under and unemployed Black talent, and companies looking for Black talent, connect.
