As always, even the most optimistic projects seem like they have a lot of nuance - "To make the project pencil out financially, the carbon dioxide pulled from the air will be injected into the ground in a way that helps Occidental extract oil that can then be sold on the market." If it ultimately still results in more fossil fuel consumption - does it negate the benefits? Sure it delays the inevitable by removing the carbon, but at what cost?
