Recent migration to the new iPhone has reminded me once again just how catastrophic it would be if Apple were to experience outages like the ones we experienced with Meta and Google. I think it's time we seriously consider putting critical path life apps (2FA, banking, home security, Tesla - I couldn't get into my car for a good hour) on a minimal, secure, secondary device? So much dependency on a single device from a single company...
Can the iPhone be the everything device that's "good enough" to everyone all at once? iPhone is here to stay, but maybe there's room for a complementary device? Much like the Laptop to the Desktop, or the Tablet to the Laptop? Many of these "secondary" devices were touted as redundant until Apple proved us wrong. I think there would be some fraction of the 1.2 billion iPhone users that would embrace such a product.

Currently, most things are done on our smartphone...within 3-5 years it'll be AI-Human interactions at home and when we are out and about. If that's the case, having to carry another device may not achieve the necessary level of customer acceptance. Whatever the IAM, Identity verification methods are in the future, they will likely have to be less cumbersome. Most likely scenario, IMHO, is that AI will decide whether "you are indeed you" by looking at your face.

This makes sense. Too much dependence on one device could prove fatal or extremely frustrating if something goes wrong. I use a Samsung but I believe it applies across the board. Some thoughts I have though:
