Proposed as an existing solution to Faster Golf Rounds
Improve Pace of Play Hypothesis #1: Play with fewer clubs
Any golfer with a handicap of over 18 (or with no handicap) should only have a golf bag of 4 -6 clubs. Anything more causes needless confusion and wastes time.
For golfers with handicaps of 18 and under, playing with fewer clubs is a great challenge and event better learning experience,.
User Experience:
Went out to play on a public course in LA with just a 2-hybrid adams and a couple of balls in my pocket.
Got all the way to the green (thanks to a nifty 60 yard 1/4 swing low punch draw out of the rough) before one of my random playing partners , who happened to work for the city as a starter, told me it was literally against the rules.
Technically he's right: posted on the Rules board is "All golfers must have a set of clubs, a putter and a golf bag."
Ultimately he let me play the round and I agreed he was technically right.
Key Learning: Playing with 1 club is really only fun for a few holes after a tournament. I missed putting with a putter. Any gains on hitting creative shots through the green an opportunity cost of the real putting experience.
