Sorry to shoot down your theory, but my father beat me with a belt as well. His father came here legally from Ireland around the turn of the century. Therefore, how folks physically react, or discipline their kids has nothing to do with how you are drawing the dots together. The trauma you suffered was at the hands of a mentally ill lunatic, and just like the asshole that was a part of my life in my early years, our problems are not societal, it was merely luck of the draw. Also, I am OK with reparations, as long as it is paid by the descendants of slave owners, the purported merchants and the leaders of the tribes that sold men and women from Africa into slavery.
