Imagine a platform that leverages video or phone to connect seniors with other seniors, caregivers, or volunteers to combat loneliness and social isolation.

On its most basic level, it connects seniors with each other, possibly based on shared interested (i.e. classic cars or knitting) or geography (South Florida or Baltimore) in a algorithmically curated fashion. This could replicate past social tools like Chat Roulette or existing ones like Omegle. But broadly, the idea is, at any time of day, a senior should be able to plug into the app and talk to someone -- either by receiving or placing a call. That is the marketplace element. From a revenue standpoint, this could be a freemium model supported by advertisements with the option to buy into ad-free.

A further element could employ a baseline of caregivers who regularly check in with seniors. They would call on some preset cadence, though in a casual manner, to check in on the patient and provide companionship as well as to check in on quality of life aspects. Further, the senior should have the ability to call into a support center to ask for assistance with day-to-day issues/tasks such as "how do I log into Netflix?" or "I can't get the thermostat to turn on." This could be paid for by family members on a subscription basis with multiple tiers of services.

A paid "gig" economy model could also be employed that leverages volunteers to reach out and check on seniors for benefits -- either small monetary compensation, or perhaps community service credit for students.

Hardware could also be provided (eventually) to make connecting between seniors easy through a very simple/clean UI.

This entire technology solution would be meant to provide the long-tail of in-home services for the aging population when a caregiver cannot be there to provide companionship. The results would be:

• mental health benefits for seniors who feel more connected and socially engaged
• peace of mind for family members knowing there is an additional resource checking in on their loved one
• opportunity for seniors or volunteers to provide needed companionship to those in need
