The Best Co-Founder You Could Have
Platform Venture Studio (platformstud.io) is the best co-founder you could have. Created by founders for founders, our tried and true methodology turbo charges startups’ velocity to success.
Our studio team does real work, we don’t waste time, and we’ve been there. Platform’s creators, serial entrepreneur Jeremy Burton and 2020 Midas List investor Tim Connors, have 30+ years of experience developing highly successful startups.
In addition to support from our studio team and other portfolio companies, we have a guild of coaches, investors, and advisors, and ~60K+ Platform’s deep network contacts.
We don't chase fads, and we do no harm. Our mission is to build companies that change the world for the better. Each of our startups aligns with our vision and fits into at least one of our themes: the new economy, climate, social justice, and civic engagement.
About the Founder-in-Residence Role
A Founder-in-Residence (or "FIR") is an entrepreneur we partner with to solve an Unmet Need. Typically, we begin a partnership with a FIR to develop an idea that is still in its infancy.
We offer income to FIRs because we believe that the inability to work without income is often a big part of what prevents some founders—particularly those from underrepresented groups— from starting the entrepreneurship journey. However, equity is of course always the primary reward for being a startup founder.
What Platform FIR’s Get
--Validated startup idea (in the form of Unmet Need and Solution) with strong chance of successInitial capital and access to our investor network
--Tried and true glide-path to success with specific, measurable milestones
--Talented, flexible, remote-first studio team with deep expertise in design, engineering, research, and growth to help you build, launch, and iterate efficiently
--Shared ops, HR, and G&A functions—legal, talent, finance, etc
--Access to Platform Guild, our network of trusted advisors and subject-matter experts
--Coaching all along the way
Who We’re Looking For
“Startup DNA”: You have a tolerance for uncertainty and ambiguity, paired with a bias toward action and proactiveness. You are driven to succeed. You are always coming up with new ideas and thinking about ways to make things better. Bonus points if you know how to prioritize your ideas to focus on ones that will move the needle.
Understanding of founder life: You understand both the highs and the lows of the founder journey, and you have the grit and mental fortitude for it (of course, we are here to support you all along the way!). You know that the day-to-day of a founder’s life is not necessarily glamorous. You might have gotten this understanding from starting a company already, being an employee close to a founder at an early-stage startup, or experimenting with your own entrepreneurial projects and initiatives.
Learning ability and growth mindset: You possess strong self awareness, situational awareness, and the capacity for critical self-reflection. You’re not afraid to ask for help, and you’re open-minded, curious, and eager to learn from others. You are able to objectively analyze and communicate your decisions, actions, and their results; process external feedback and other perspectives; and quickly adapt with new information.
Passion for our themes: You agree with the quote: “Fall in love with the problem, not the solution” (from Uri Levine at Waze). At the end of the day, you care most about solving a real problem in spaces that matter, and making an impact for those with a deep Unmet Need within our current four themes: new economy, climate, social justice, and civic engagement.
Goodness: You have low ego and high integrity. You’re motivated by wanting to change the world for the better. You do what is right. You are collaborative and communicative. You treat your customers, your team, and your advisors with utmost thoughtfulness. You are able to inspire others to goodness.
this is a full-time position.

Founder @ Creative Climate Management Institute Ltd
Dear Claire,
To expand on my earlier note:
I am interested in the Founder in Residence role posted recently on LinkedIn.
I have spent about a little more than a year building a non-profit project development facility, to decarbonize traditional industries in low and middle income areas — can you spell “global”?. The proposed exit is sale to impact investors.
Apparent lack of interest from Foundations, etc., has led me to consider turning my non-profit into a B Corporation. My understanding is that this process is long and thus costly, and thus I would only embark on it with financial and moral support. I need someone to help me figure out whether whether there is any prospect for this kind of endeavor to obtain support from venture capitalists, and then if so, to help me achieve this major pivot.
My CV should draw a picture of my considerable “start up DNA”. But that’s “nature”; I need “nurture”.
Thanks for listening. Let me know your thoughts,
Leni Berliner, Founder

ENERGY FARMS INTERNATIONAL
Leni Berliner established EFI in 2007, for the purpose of developing a portfolio of renewable energy generating assets using biomass and solar technologies. She took a 24 Mw solar project in northern Chile through Scoping Study, and evaluated three large land packages in Argentina for the production of biomass for liquid fuel. Following the financial crisis of 2008-2009, EFI pivoted from project developer to advisory services provider. A Founding Member of ACORE (American Council for Renewable Energy), EFI was active in private and public sector efforts to grow the sustainable economy, providing analytical and relationship support to land and property owners, financiers, technology providers, and policy makers.
Assistance to Land and Property Owners: To help owners of undeveloped land or commercial buildings make energy efficiency and renewable energy (EERE) investment decisions, EFI assessed energy investment climate, drafted leases, performed and oversaw pre-feasibility studies and advised on financing. EFI advised a construction company on the use of solar water heating and generating energy from solid waste at a mining camp in Chile, and advised a property developer on incorporating LEED standards into a new apartment building in Chile.
Assistance to Financiers and Clean Technology Entrepreneurs: Energy Farms International did project appraisals and raised capital, in support of efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Raised $8 million in first tranche for biofuels production in Benin in 2008. Knowledgeable of early efforts to build GHG emissions trading markets.
Working with the Clean Tech Open and the Mentor Capital Network, Ms. Berliner has supported early-stage clean technology companies as a coach and judge, helping them plan to go to market with a variety of new products or processes, including without limitation:
EFI also provided evaluation services to multilateral environmental organizations supporting green infrastructure, conservation and adaptation to climate change in Latin America such as the Biotrade Facilitation Program of UNCTAD, the Global Environment Facility (Earth Fund), and Swiss Economic Cooperation Organization/Cleaner Production Program. The GEF Evaluation included an assessment of the progress of the CIF funds and suggestions for fostering growth in their use.
Publications/Assistance to Policy Makers: EFI provided uncompensated advice to the US Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee staff on Waxman-Markey (2009), and to NGOs working with rating agencies on the development of assessment criteria for green bonds and water bonds. In 2014 EFI submitted to the Government of Dominica a Concept Paper for the development of micro-grids to support agriculture and tourism. Ms. Berliner is an occasional contributor to the InterAmerican Dialogue’s Latin American Energy Advisor. Ms. Berliner was a Peer Reviewer for five chapters in the section on Legal Frontiers of the ABA’s Global Climate Change and US Law, Second Edition Michael B. Gerrard and Jody Freeman, editors, published June 2014. For the US Congress, in 2016 she and colleagues published a paper with the National Institute of Building Sciences/Committee on Finance, Insurance and Real Estate, on “Using the Public Capital Markets to Mainstream Investment in Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy”.
