Making it easy to plant trees to offset carbon and track results

 The Unmet Need

While massive reduction of carbon emissions should remain the primary focus, properly planned tree planting programs can remove significant amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere over time.
However, both companies and individuals need help with the execution of large scale tree planting.
Some of the key "jobs to be done" are to identify land that is appropriate for tree planting, to secure the rights to plant on that land (buy/lease), to execute the tree planting, manage the land, and report back on the results.

I can help you - I am well versed in carbon markets and how this could be publically veriable using a global public ledger (ie blockchain). Please contact me if interested. chris@grayblock.ca
After much research, we are moving #Trees as a Service back to Stage 1. Thank you to everyone who contributed and commented. While we continue believe that there would be customers for such a business, we ultimately concluded that tree planting is a diversion from the main focus of reducing carbon emissions. It is also fraught with "greenwashing" dangers which are at odds with other ESG businesses we are building, like Ethically. The scale of tree planting required to make a significant dent in carbon emissions is gargantuan. The math is ultimately quite simple - we release billions of tons of CO2 (43.1BN tons in 2019 alone) but a mature tree only absorbs a few pounds of CO2 a year. Despite the best of intentions, it will be very hard to get tree planting to a scale where it will make a significant dent. The "every little helps" argument is there but the opportunity cost of tree planting versus direct CO2 emission reductions is greater, in our view.
Love that article @Francis and it is on point 💯!!! We can't even think of cutting down trees as any part of a solution. We have so much plastic waste and we keep making more of it! We need to challenge ourselves to cleanly repurpose/re-engineer our junk into new materials. So, the question we should ask of any idea (to quote him): There are 51 billion tons of greenhouse gasses emitted annually, what is the percentage reduction a proposed scheme offers? 👀 He keeps it 💯 when he says: “Technologies that will never exceed one per cent should not compete for the limited resources we have for getting to zero...”
