12 milestones complete
20 milestones to go
 The Unmet Need

Many stakeholder groups feel powerless. e.g. Uber/Lyft drivers or students. They lack a modern mechanism to coordinate, coalesce around issues and use the leverage they have to effect the change they want.
Social media is great for discussion. However, it is not great for action. It lacks the tools, structure, and hierarchy to effectively coordinate.
Social media's main form of leverage is "public shaming". This can work but requires large scale and is hit-and-miss.
Mostly, social media yields "slacktivism" and "oh dear-ism". Also, it's common that individuals "speaking out of turn" face retribution from their employers.
Change.org allows people to define issues and show their support for them but it's essentially a slightly more organized form of public shaming.
Any company or institution's reaction to public shaming can also be hollow and focus on minimizing damage versus actual change - "green-washing", "window dressing", etc.
There are many other levers that stakeholders have at their disposal; they just need a mechanism to bring them to bear, including:
- the power of the consumer wallet (see our business #Ethically)
- shareholder voting rights
- labor organization
- direct contributions (donations)

GE shareholders reject CEO Culp's $230 million pay in rare rebuke

NEW YORK/CHICAGO (Reuters) -General Electric Co shareholders rejected top executives' compensation packages, including a payout of as much as $230 million to CEO Larry Culp, at the industrial conglomerate's annual shareholder meeting on Tuesday. While the shareholder vote was non-binding, the move was a rare rebuke of a major corporation's handling of its executive pay. As part of an extension of Culp's employment contract to 2024, GE last August canceled old shares given to him and granted him new shares tied to lower financial targets.

👋Hi! Here's an update of the activity on Union2.0-

- A team of core and Guild members worked through the six hats exercise led by Jeremy
- We have a Framer prototype that includes the rough concept w/functionality proposed by Tim and Jeremy's user stories
- We have a help request in platformOS to gather initial feedback on the rough prototype. Please jump in and check it out!
- We're underway in the deep-dive stage of user research and competitive analysis. Our goals are to understand the Union space and our target users' pain points. Our two key users are the petition creator and the company representative.

What's Happening Now
Connecting with change.org campaign creators, continue gathering insights from subject-matter experts, and continue the trendscape and competitive analysis.

📣A big shoutout to Francis Kim and Dave Shefferman for sharing excellent insights that have produced great questions to explore. Thank you!!! 📣

Highlights of the feedback coming soon! Stay tuned.

If you know someone who is in the union space, either the end user or on the company side, please send them our way via email: lissette@platformstud.io.

Hey everyone! Exciting news - this week we bought domains for several of the Union 2.0 name suggestions below including:

I think we need a poll widget here, right?

I like Gather.com!

In the first part of the podcast, they discuss the Amazon unionization defeat. Prof. Galloway takes a pretty negative view not on collective action but on unions as they exist today.

We had a great brainstorming session today and now have a clear path forward for V1 of clickable mockups.

This idea of a "liquid" or "proxy" based voting structure is quite compelling because it scales even as as each individual adds more orgs or products they are associated with. If each individual had to stay on top of each issue at each org he/she contributes labor to or each company where he/she is a consumer, it would quickly get overwhelming or you'd just get polarization voting.

I updated the Problem / Unmet Need and Proposed Solution on the "Details" tab here. Comments welcome.

What is the opportunity that you're seeing here? Is it to rethink how unions are formed and managed? Or is it to rethink the goals of collective action for labor? It seems as though the structure of a union was created for a different era, where people switched jobs far less frequently.
