This is such amazing progress. I feel like the obvious answer here is to raise rates for customers to pay for the additional employment expense. Yes - rides will go down, but also having a private driver and taking a cab everywhere is probably not actually a sustainable business model. Everyone got used to VC dollars subsidizing this behavior and it's going to be a rude awakening when people realize that this actually needs to be expensive to work.

The voice of the union is so important because news outlets may not always reflect all sides of the story. For example, the claimants said "that Uber had said minimum wage and holiday pay would accrue from when a trip was accepted to when a passenger was dropped off, not the whole time drivers were logged on to its app – the working time laid out by the supreme court. They said this meant that Uber drivers could miss out on up to 50% of potential earnings."

@Brett right? Meanwhile, they (Uber, DoorDash, Instacart) spent $200 million fighting this in California and they won 🤦🏽‍♀️

This is going to be a FASCINATING test case for Uber. They've talked a lot about how they can't operate while treating their drivers like real employees so if they don't completely back out of the market it'll be a signal to every other region where Uber is active that they were full of it.

Here's a recent example of the power of unions. The App Drivers & Couriers Union is headed by Uber drivers James Farrar and Yaseen Aslam https://www.adcu.org.uk/
